About the department

Founded on June 7, 1978, within the Faculty of Computer Science and Cybernetics at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, the Department of Applied Statistics is a leading center for training specialists in stochastic analysis, mathematical modeling, and Data Science. The educational and research team is headed by Doctor of Sciences (Physics and Mathematics), Professor Irina V. Rozora.
The Department is degree-granting for specialty F4 “System Analysis and Data Science” (Bachelor, Master, PhD) and also provides specialized training for higher education applicants in other specialties of field F “Computer Science”:
- F1 “Applied Mathematics”
- F2 “Software Engineering”
- F3 “Computer Science”
- F5 “Cybersecurity and Information Protection”
The educational process covers core compulsory courses in probability theory, mathematical statistics, theory of random processes, actuarial and financial mathematics, data analysis, data mining, machine learning, as well as a wide range of elective courses focused on the application of probabilistic and statistical methods in applied research.
Special attention is paid to the practical application of the acquired knowledge in various fields, including IT, economics, finance and insurance, biology, sociology, and other industries.
The educational and scientific process is provided by a team of highly qualified scientists:
